Shashi didi

Shashi discovered crochet when she was in 8th standard, picking it up as a hobby during her school vacations. At the time, schools often taught young girls embroidery, crochet, and knitting, and she, along with her friends, began learning together.

During those vacations, she along with her friends started working on a blanket a piece she still holds onto today. Completing it gave her a deep sense of confidence in her craft.

However, like many journeys, life took over and for years she couldn’t actively pursue crochet due to other responsibilities.

After marriage and kids in 2013-2014, her connection with the craft found its way back. She began creating beautiful dresses for Krishna ji’s idols, often looking at designs and thoughtfully recreating them with her own hands.

One day, a neighbor noticed her work and asked her to make something for them too. That small moment turned into a new beginning - she started clicking pictures of her creations and sharing them on WhatsApp, gradually receiving orders while continuing her job alongside.

Two years ago, our paths crossed at a Women’s Day exhibition in our hometown, Sangrur. I was instantly drawn to her work - the detailing, the creativity, the effort behind each piece. We connected and soon after, Shashi became a part of ICT.

Today, she specializes in intricate miniatures, keyrings and delicate floral garlands. A truly multi-talented artist, Shashi has the remarkable ability to recreate almost any pattern she sets her mind to.
